Steve started his career in INAC Alberta Region, Ft. McMurray Service Centre in 1982.  As Superintendent of Technical Services, Steve provided project management services for the construction and operation of on reserve housing, community buildings, and water and sewer projects. In 1988, Steve moved to Calgary District Office as the Superintendent, Band Support and Capital Management continuing project management services with Treaty 7 First Nations.

In 1991, he took on the job as the Manager, Environmental Planning and Management in Edmonton undertaking the regional management of on reserve contaminated sites, environmental impact assessments and the coordination and participation in a number of federal and provincial EIA panel reviews. In 1999, Steve moved to INAC Headquarters in Ottawa as the Manager, Environment Assessment and developed the departmental Environmental Stewardship Strategy Training Modules now used in the popular departmental-wide Environmental Learning Regimes sessions.

In 2007, Steve accepted tenure with INAC Community Development as the National Housing Manager. Before his retirement in April 2009, Steve completed the development of a national Ministerial Loan Guarantee Operational Guide to assist First Nations Councils and Lenders in securing housing loans on reserve lands.

During Steve’s career, he received four Deputy Minister Awards in recognition of his outstanding endeavours in the area of First Nation environmental protection:

2    DIAND Sustainable Development Strategy – Environmental Stewardship Strategy
3    Enforcement and Compliance Team for the registration of Fuel Storage Tanks on reserves
4    Development of a First Nation Environmental Awareness Video series

In 2002, Steve was the recipient of the 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee Medal from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for his long term dedication to First Nation community development.
